Phasers of Anstractor, by Greg Dragon
The Geralos Empire’s only obstacle in galactic domination is The Phasers of Anstractor. The Phasers are an elite group of soldiers, hand-picked and re-educated with the secrets of the galaxy. Phasers can clone, jump to other galaxies, and extend their lives, but their most dangerous weapon is their secrecy. Nobody knows where they come from and how they are able to do the things that they do. To defeat this secret organization, the Geralos must learn more about them. They send their best spy to find a way to infiltrate the Phaser Agency.
I think of the “New Phase” series by Greg Dragon to be Star Trek lite. Phasers of Anstractor is the second book in the series, and it is easy to follow without reading the first. Although, the history of Commander Rafian and the Phasers is mentioned briefly, the gaps in the story compelled me to request the first book from the author.
In the past, I’ve read Star Trek novels and enjoyed some, and others resulted in a resounding, “Meh.” Phasers reads just like a Star Trek novel, and the writing style reminds me of Wesley Dean Smith.
I had to put a lot of thought into the star rating for Phasers of Anstractor. It demands to be a four-star story, but it was just missing something that I couldn’t identify.
Phasers is a compelling read that makes you want to read more from Greg Dragon. I think I said it on Tuesday, but it’s worth repeating: I expect great things from this author and look forward to reading more from him.
